John Smith, Pocahontas and the Clash of Cultures

John Smith, Pocahontas and the Clash of Cultures
Blog Post #3 (Segment 2 of Film)
John Smith understands the Indians and has an intuitive feel for how to deal with them and communicate with them. When he is taken prisoner and about to be killed, Pocahontas intervenes with her father, Chief Powahatan, to secure mercy and spare his life.

Why do you think Powahatan spared Smith? What was the role of Pocahontas and what does her father expect from her as the two cultures continue to try to understand each other?

John Smith is taken in by the Indians and is schooled in their culture by Pocahontas. Pocahontas is charged with learning about the English and their intentions. She is warned by her father to always put her people first, but there seems to be a connection between her and John Smith.
He is released back to Jamestown with the understanding that the English would leave in the spring. What does he find when he gets back to Jamestown? What is the condition of the settlement? How well are the English surviving?

John Smith becomes the leader of the colony by acclaim. He is a leader and his leadership style improves the odds for the struggling colony. “He who does not work shall not eat” is the command that Smith issues to galvanize the lazy colonists, who are more interested in trying to find gold than in doing the work necessary for survival.

How effective a leader is Smith? What is it about him that the colonists recognize and acknowledge, even if they find him irritating? Are there aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith's personality? Do you think there are times when this sort of a personality can be useful? As a person, do you think there is anything special about Smith, unique perhaps, that makes him essential to the story of Jamestown?

As the colonists in Jamestown starve during the winter, Pocahontas leads a group of Indians with much needed food, seed for crops and provisions to get them through the winter, an act of generosity and kindness that is representative of the Native American culture. How do the colonists treat Pocahontas? How is she perceived? How do you think they will repay her act of kindness?  Does Pocahontas empathize with the plight of the English or is it her feelings for John Smith that cause her to take such a risk and feed the colony against her father's wishes? How do you think her father will react when he finds out she helped him? What kind of a woman is this extraordinary young woman? How would you describe her?

The Powahatan spare Smith's life, because the daughter of the chief jumps into his arms and saves his life. Pocahontas' role was to basically spy on Smith and learn as much as she could about the new settlers. Her father expects her to bond with Smith, but also to always be loyal to her Indian tribe. When Smith goes back to Jamestown, he finds a village on the verge of failing. The people of Jamestown were in the "Starving Time". Some people even chose cannibalism as a way to survive. Conditions are extremely rough and the town is preparing to leave. The English are completely hopeless until Smith comes back and before his arrival the English were clearly having a difficult time surviving. Smith is clearly an effective leader. He demands what he wants to be done. The colonists recognize Smith's leadership qualities. Although Smith can seem mean sometimes, he is doing what's best for the colony. There are aspects of a bully in Smith's personality. He is a hard worker who doesn't take no for an answer. There are definitely times where this quality is helpful. When the colonists were lazy, the struggled surviving, but when Smith is their leader, he forces them to work hard so that they can survive easier. There is something very special about Smith. His leadership is very special, because it completely turns the colony around. The colonists treat Pocahontas with respect. In the movie, they even bow down to her when she walks past. She is perceived to be the hero of the Jamestown colony. The colonists will repay her with as much respect as possible. Her father will be upset with Pocahontas for giving up their food to their "enemy", but he will be proud of her kindness. Pocahontas is a caring person who is a role model for children today.

I think Pocahontas spared Smith because she understood that he didn't know the customs or their culture and he didn't mean to make Powahatan mad. Pocahontas is the translator between the two cultures and her father wants her to learn the English culture and teach their culture to John Smith to try and understand each other. When John Smith gets back to Jamestown, he found out that everyone was starving and dying of disease. The condition is very poor since they have no food and fewer people. The English are not surviving very well and the fate of this settlement is looking terrible at this point. Smith gets all of Jamestown working again and actually gives them a chance of surviving. They recognize that he is hard working and determinate. There are some hints of a bully in his personality. He does push the settlers around and put them down in hopes of making them work harder. This personality can be useful when trying to get a group of people to work and do it correctly. You have to be forceful. Out of everyone in Jamestown, John Smith is certainly the most determined. The colonists treat Pocahontas greatly. She is perceived as the savior of Jamestown and they all love her. They repay her kindness by teaching her the ways of the English. Pocahontas did this out of empathy because it was never actually proven that her and John Smith had a relationship. Her father will be furious because of what she did for the colonists because they are at a disagreement. Pocahontas is a very kind and forgiving person. She helped out the people that took her home from him and she wasn't mad at them. She is understanding because she knows they just want to stay alive.

The Indians spare Smith's life because of Pocahontas, who jumps in to save his life. Her father wanted her to spy on the new settlers, but not to get in to deep with Smith. Smith finds finds Jamestown on the verge of destruction when he arrives back. He is recognized as leader after the current leader is shot and begins right away on fixing Jamestown. He says the famous line that he who does not work shall not eat. This was during something called the "Starving times" it was so bad many people believe they had to resort to cannibalism. He has a way of getting what he wants. He is able to say something and have it done. This is a valuable quality and it helped them survive, regardless of how harsh it might of sounded. Pocahontas becomes a hero in Jamestown. She brings food to help feed the starving colonists which causes her to be greatly respected by the people. Without what she did Jamestown probably would have failed and America could of never existed.

The Powahatans spare John Smiths life, but Pocahontas was the real reason why. Right before they were going to kill him, she dove on top of him. The main role of Pocahontas was to get as much information about John Smith and his culture. In my opinion, I think that her father expected her to be loyal to him no matter what, and to always do as he says with no disagreement or hesitation. John Smith is released back to Jamestown with the understanding that the English would leave in the spring. He finds that many people are very ill, and that theres not much food, leaving many to starve. The condition of the settlement is very bad, and the English aren't surviving. John Smith is a very effective leader, he gets his men to do the work that is needed to be done. The thing that the colonists recognize and acknowledge about him is that he is a true leader, even if they find him irritating. John Smiths leadership is very iconic to me. In my opinion, there are not aspects of an arrogant bully in Smiths personally, its just how he is. He's rude and harsh because he wants to get what he wants done, and the only way to get that through to people is to be demanding. Yes, I strongly believe that there are times when this sort of personality can be useful. I believe this because like I said above, if you want something done you have to be demanding, if not, you're not going to get it done. As a person, I do believe that there is one thing unique about John Smith, and that is leadership. Leadership is hard to find in many people, although most wont believe it but it is. John Smith is a true leader. The unique leadership that John Smith has makes him essential to the story of Jamestown because without him, the English wouldn't be able to get through this tough period of time. The colonists treat Pocahontas like a queen honestly. They bowed down to her when she walked by them, and thanked her many many times. In my opinion, Pocahontas is perceived to be the hero of the Jamestown colony, because if it wasn't for everything she done, nobody would have survived. I honestly don't know how the colonists could ever repay Pocahontas, but they have to do something special because she saved many lives. I believe that it's Pocahontas's feelings for John Smith that caused her to take such a risk and feed the colony against her fathers wishes. I think that her father would be mad at first, but then realize that she's doing the right thing because she's helping many people, and thats what he wants from her. Pocahontas is a unique, caring young woman, and it's hard to find people like her in our world today. She puts everyone before herself, and asks for nothing in return for all she does. I would describe her as a very iconic woman.

I think Powhatan spared John Smith because he realized that Pocahontas had a sort of connection with him. However, her father expects her to put her people before everything including her heart. He finds that Jamestown is dying and suffering from starvation. The English are just barely surviving.

Smith is a very efficient leader due to his knowledge and strength. He is also somewhat of an arrogant bully in the sense that he bullies people into working and immediately expects them to listen. This can be useful because he makes sure he gets what he wants and this will help the colony. John Smith is very understanding and can be patient in a way that makes people trust him and this makes him a big part of the story of Jamestown. Many people at the time would not have been able to gain even a sliver of trust from the Indians.

Pocahontas is treated with respect and kindness. Colonists bow down to her as she walks by, showing that they think highly of her. I believe they will help the Indians in some way in order to repay her. Pocahontas helps the colony due to her feelings for John Smith because she knows that he cares for the colony. I think her father will be really angry when he finds out considering he told her to put her people first. Pocahontas is kind, caring, and generous. She is a woman of honor and respect.

I believe Powahatan spared Smiths life because of Pocahontas jumping in front of smith. In the movie it states that the chief had many daughters and sons but for some reason she stood out and was most special to him. Pocahontas was a translator for the natives and the English men. She learned a lot of words during the time Smith was with the tribe. When smith comes back to Jamestown he finds that the camp is a mess. Many people are dying or have died. They have no food and they are all fighting with each other. Many want to leave and go home. The English are not doing very well. They probable would not have survive if it was not for the natives. I believe John smith is becoming a very effective leader because he learned a lot from the natives so he can help the colony survive better than anyone else. I believe the colonist realized that he knows how to help them and that's why the elected him to be the leader. I believe his personality really isn't a bad person and yes it can defiantly help them in the end because he is very forcefully and knows how to make things get done fast. They treat Pocahontas really well because she is helping them so they don't starve to death. No I believe Pocahontas help them out of the kindness in her heart not because of Smith and her relationship. I believe this because there is no proof that the relationship even happened so I have no reason to believe she would have acted differently. I believe they will repay her by helping the natives in anyway they need so then it`s like they are even. I believe her father will not be happy that she helped them and he always says that her people should come first not the white men. I would describe her as generous because even though she knew her father would not approve she did it anyway because she thought it was the right thing to do and never thought twice about it.

The reason why Powahatan spared Smith is because his daughter protected him. He trusts his daughter. The role Pocahontas plays is the connection between the natives and the English. Her father expects her to put her people before everything, including her heart.

When Smith returns back to the colony, he finds that the colonists are suffering. Most are dying and the others are just scraping by. The condition of the settlement is unsanitary and full of diseases. Most are starting to want to head back to England.

Going back to the colony, Smith finds himself declared as the new leader. He takes on the role and proves to be a worthy one. Everyone else sees that he knows what should be done and his commands should be full filled. Some parts of Smith come off as harsh, but he just wants what is best to survive. What is special about Smith is that he drives the people so their lives would be easier. Without this, people would still be sitting around waiting for others to do the work.

The colonists open the doors to her and her people. Overall, they are seen as savages, but that changes when they offer supplies. They will repay her by give her jewels and weapons. What I think that makes her do this act of kindness is the feel of sorrow for the English and her feelings for Smith. In the beginning, she was intrigued when they came, but started to have feelings for John when he stayed with the Indians. Her father would probably be angry, but know she had good intentions. Pocahontas is a generous and giving person who will do what is needed to be done.

Chief Powahatan spares Smith because he thinks that Smith could give him lots of knowledge that he didn't know. The roll of Pocahontas is to learn all she can from Smith not only to better her knowledge, but to also better the knowledge of the chief and the tribe. Chief Powahatan expects Pocahontas to learn as much as she can from Smith before the tribe lets him go back to Jamestown.

Poahatan spared John Smith because he realized that Pocahontas had a sort of connection with him. Pocahontas is expected to put her people before John Smith and his people and even herself. Pocahontas is supposed to get as much information out of John Smith as she can. (Information and culture) John Smith finds that his people are starving when he returns. (Called starving time) His people have no food and they all run up to him asking him if he brought any food back. The English aren’t surviving very well. Most are sick and how the colony is acting is not making thinks better. The condition of the settlement is on the dark side, it’s bad. John Smith is a very effective leader. He takes leadership and pride and he makes the colony come together and strengthen the environment. The colonists recognize and acknowledges the leadership and commitment John Smith has. John Smith was determined to fix and make sure things strengthen. There are not aspects of an arrogant bully in Smiths personally, its just how his personality is. Yes he's rude and demanding because he wants to get what he wants done, and the only way to get that through to colonists. Yes, I think this personality can be useful. At that time the only way to get the colonists to listen was to be demanding, as I stated before. John Smith is unique. Even though he left and came back he still wanted things to get done to help him and his people. Its leadership..Leadership is hard to find in some people and especially back then when people had to depend on each other to live. He was essential to Jamestown. John Smith was the leader and he was strengthening the colony. The colonists treated Pocahontas like a queen. They all bowed down as she walked and then thanked her much. Pocahontas is perceived because without her bringing all the food most of the colony wouldn’t have been able to survive. There is a possible way of repaying her some but not all. She saved all of the colonist’s lives. I believe that it's Pocahontas's feelings for John Smith that caused her to take such a risk and feed the colony against her father’s wishes. I think that her father would be mad at first because she already told her once not to "talk" to him. Later he will then realize that she's doing the right thing because she's helping many people in many ways. That’s what he wants from her, a kind hearted girl helping people. Pocahontas is a unique, caring young woman, it’s difficult to find people like her in our society to this day. She puts everyone and everything before herself. Pocahontas doesn’t really ask for anything in return. I would describe her as a very unselfish kind hearted woman, which many will love.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because of how his favorite daughter, Pocahontas, tried to stop his execution. The role of Pocahontas is to become a bridge between the two cultures, and her father expects her to put her people before anything else, and to teach John smith their ways.
When John Smith returns to Jamestown and Jamestown is a mess. In the middle is a well fed Gentleman in the midst of starving people. The people are starving and the actual settlement is in shambles.
Smith is a very effective leader. What the colonists recognize about him is that he is doing everything in his power to improve the conditions of the colony, and not for himself like the other Gentlemen. There are aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith’s personality. He has immense experience and authority, and Smith knows it, and uses it to belittle people for the benefit of the colony, by driving them to work with an implied “do it or else” statement or even blatantly stating it. This can be very useful for making the lazy and un-working members of Jamestown to contribute. I do think there is something special about Smith that makes him essential. His brand of harsh leadership is what keeps the colony going and working together
The colonists treat her with incredible respect, bowing to her as she walked by and treating the other natives with gratitude. To the colonists she is perceived as a savior of the colony and possibly as queen-like. I think that her feelings for Smith were what made her take that risk for the Colony, because she when right to talking with Smith I the film, and left after a conversation about why he didn’t return. I think her father will be furious with her, but not act against her. I would describe her as independent, strong willed, and willing to take risks.

When John Smith returns to Jamestown he finds many of the colonists dead, sick and lacking supplies. The condition of the settlement is harsh and barren with supplies and goods. The English are struggling with survival and many have died from starvation and disease. Smith is a very effective leader. The colonists recognize and acknowledge his leadership skills and ability to communicate with the Indians. I do not think Smith has personality aspects of an arrogant bully. I think he knows how to properly run a successful colony and without his strong personality and morals, they would not be able to survive. I think John Smith is very unique and essential to the story of Jamestown because he traded with the Indians and obtained corn, which helped them survive in the New World. The colonists bow down to her and treat her graciously. She is perceived as a generous person who provided them with the essential supplies to survive. I think they will repay her with kindness and gracious goods. I think it is a mixture of both because she seems fascinated and intrigued with the English yet her feelings for John Smith are very strong and she wants to help him and his people. I think her father will be furious about Pocahontas’s actions and act out against the English in a violent manner. Pocahontas is a passionate, kind spirited girl who is fascinated with opposite cultures. She is one of a kind and stands out among others.

I think Powhatan spared Smith's because he trusted his daughter because she interfered in on her father to tell him to show mercy and to spare his life. The role of Pocahontas was to communicate between both worlds because she understood John Smith. When John Smith returned back he found everyone either dead or very scared. The colony had no food and the new leader is very harsh. The settlement and English surviving are in bad shape and are suffering. John Smiths leadership is what made the colony survive. What they find in John Smith is a great leader that makes everyone get there work done. Yes John Smith can be a little bit of a bully. This attitude is very good for a leader because you need someone to be bossy when things get rough. John Smith saved Jamestown and without him the 2 worlds would have never have connected. The settlers treat Pocahontas with much needed respect because she is helping keep them survive. Pocahontas is perceived as being a reason why the Indians hated the settlers. The settlers will repay her by giving her free things and giving her food and protection. I think her relationship with John Smith is the reason why Pocahontas did all of this. I like her father will be extremely mad that she is helping the settlers. Pocahontas is an extraordinary woman for understanding the settlers and helping them stay alive. Pocahontas is a very intelligent, brave and thoughtful person.

I think Powahatan spared Smith because they knew he had some of the things they need to survive. Like swords, cannons, and guns that would help them fight and hunt for big game. Pocahontas' role is to become the princess of the tribe because she was the daughter of the chief. Her father expects her to be always an Powahatan and not become one of the English people. Also to not get caught up and get hurt by the settlers who they barely know and to always put her people first.
Captain John Smith finds that there is only about 12 people alive out of how many came to the new world. The condition of the settlement was in poor conditions it was all muddy, rotten and there was no food at all. Also settlers turning against each other not trusting anyone. The English are not surviving well until Smith cam e back with the Indians. Which who brought food, furs, and spices they could use. That helped the English out for a couple of months.
The command that John Smith issued is mostly towards the lazy colonists about in doing work for survival. Because they really need it with the poor living conditions.
John Smith is a pretty effective leader cause of how he took charged saying "He who does not work shall not eat". Made the settlers work harder for their food cause more than half of them were heading towards starvation. That John Smith kept them alive with hard work and knowing the Indians and making peace with them. Cause without him knowing them they would not have food, spices and furs they could use during the winter. No there is no aspects of arrogant bully in his personality. His personality sounds like that cause he wants to live and for them to live they have to get pushed. I do think this sort of personality can be useful. It can be useful to push the settlers to work harder to grow crops, build houses, and to keep them under control. I do think there is something unique about Smith. His leadership is unique to me cause he makes peace with the Indians which relieves one problem, pushes the settlers to the limit to get what they need to live on and have Jamestown grow bigger and bigger.
The colonists treat Pocahontas like royalty bowing down to her as she leaves. Thanking her for all the food and seeds so that they can keep growing crops to live. She is perceived as a giver to them, for saving them getting them through the winter and also helping out for spring by giving them seeds to grow crops. I think they will repair he by leaving their land as the chief said to do as spring comes. Also giving her people high powered weapons like guns, and cannons. I think it is her feelings for John Smith to disobey he fathers wishes to feed the colonists. I think the chief will react like it was a terrible thing to do. To give almost all their crops and livestock to them so that they could survive. She is a a hero because she broke her fathers wishes and feeding the colonists so that they could live. That's what kind of woman she is. I would also describe her as a hero. For all she did to help them.

I think Smith is such an effective leader. What makes him so respected is that hes brave and takes everything as it is. I think there is a hint of arrogance in Smith's personality. I think arrogance is a good quality to have but not to have it all the time. When it'd be useful to use is when some one is trying to put you down and you can come right back and kind of be the one in control. I think Smith being very accepting is also a good quality he has. He doesn't seem uncomfortable with the Indians when he first meets them, hes very understanding of there differences and adjusts. I think the colonists were very grateful for Pocahontas because most of them would be dead with out her. I think they will repay her by leaving her people alone and know they aren't the bad guys. I think its a mix of the two things that makes Pocahontas do what she does. John is probably a big part of her wanting to keep him alive and his people alive but also she might have went through a starving period before and doesn't want anyone going through it. I think her father will be angry initially but loosen up when he realizes how much the settlers could help them out in the end. I think that Pocahontas is an amazing girl because she knew what was right in her heart and followed through. Id describe her as someone to look up to, like an idol.

When John Smith is released back to Jamestown he finds out that most of the people in the colony are either suffering from diseases or have died from the diseases and or starvation. The colonists recognize that John Smith has a characteristic of leadership. I do not think that those aspects are of an arrogant bully. These sorts of personalities are useful when you need someone to take charge on something. When Pocahontas father finds out that she helped the settlers i think he will be very furious with her and take it out on the settlers. I believe that Pocahontas has a very caring personality and puts everyone else before herself.

John Smith is a very affective leader because he kept Jamestown from dying out. The Colonist recognize how smart and intelligent he is with different problems. There are aspects of an arrogant bully in Smiths personality because when something doesn't get done the way he wants he gets angry. There are times where his personality is helpful because it gets the colonist to get their work done better. There is nothing special about John Smith, the only reason why he was a leader is because the way he dealt with problems and how he kept people alive. After Pocahontas' act of kindness the colonist repay her with jewels for the Powhatan and accept her as being an ally. Pocahontas' father will probably want to separate form the colonist because he doesn't trust them. Pocahontas is a very kind and generous person, she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone because that is the way she is.

The Powahatans spared John Smith's life all because Pocahontas jumps on top of Smith before he was killed. Her main role was to find out information about the European settlers and their culture. To me I think Pocahontas' father thought he had control over her. The natives let him go after they understand that the settlers would leave in the spring. When he arrives back to the fort, he sees the living conditions. They make him the leader after the current one was shot. John Smith then begins his quest to fix up Jamestown during the Starving Time. He finds out that the people turned to cannibalism. He then says the famous line: "He who does not work shall not eat." He was born a leader in my opinion. He knew what to do and what to say. Whatever he said was done. Those are the best qualities a leader can have. Pocahontas, along with the other natives, brought food to the starving colonists in Jamestown. Because of that, the colonists thought of her almost as a queen. Her actions saved Jamestown.

I think the Powhatan spared John Smith's life because his daughter, the one he loved the most, intervened and he valued her opinion. He was also probably curious about these new people. Pocahontas played the role of an interpreter between the two groups. She served as the meeting point between two different cultures and she was expected to hold up this reputation. When John Smith returns to Jamestown, he finds everyone starving, supplies dwindling, less colonists, and all of them losing hope. A few have even turned to cannibalism. They planned to thrive when they got to the New World, but as of now they are just barely surviving. John Smith then comes to power and things change. He declares that "He who does not work, shall not eat." So, right away, the men know that things will be different in James down now. John Smith becomes a great, respected, and strong leader. The colonists respected him for his authority and his ability to accomplish what needs to happen for them to survive. Though there are also times when Smith is too harsh and a bit of a bully. But it's exactly what the colonists need to get them back on their feet again. Smith had a unique ability that helped him take command over any situation. He was great at finding ways for them to survive and he didn't give up. Whether it meant trading with unknown natives, or going out and searching for food himself, he did what was best for the colony. The colonists treat Pocahontas as if she was a queen and they bow down and respect her and her tribe so much. I think they will repay them with knowledge of their weapons or traditions. Pocahontas was probably helping them because she felt bad for them because there was never any evidence that she had feelings for John Smith. And although she will probably be in trouble with her father who didn't want her to go, she still did. This shows how much she is willing to sacrifice for a group of people that she barely knows. She was a sacrificial, kind, and caring hero to the colonists. And without her, Jamestown wouldn't have survived.

I think Powahatan spared John Smiths life because Pocahontas jumped on top of him when they we're about to murder him. I think the only reason he spared his life because he didn't want to upset Pocahontas because he loved her. He had over hundred sons and daughters yet he liked her the best. He also knew that John Smith would teach her all about the land over the ocean. And he knew that this May bring them closer to peace. But I really think he wanted to butter up. John Smith so they would let there guard down and they can get close up and attack. But what Powahatan didn't know was that John Smith was going to grow on the whole tribe and he especially didn't see. Jim growing on Pocahontas at all. He saw something happening between them so he sent John Smith back to his camp Jamestown.

I believe Pocahantas spared his life because she was very entreeged by the English culture and knew that he doesn't understand theirs. Pocahantas was to learn abut the English culture and language to communicate with the settlers. She was also expected to stay true to her own culture no matter what. When Smith returns back to Jamestown, he finds that the people are starving and had ran out of food. The condition was horrible and dirty and the settlers were barley surviving. John Smith was soon a very effective leader. He helped the colony survive and work harder while still getting food. He knows whats best for the colony and can work hard to get it. That's what the colonists acknowledge. Smith does have a stuborn side and want to get what he wants. He could also be irritating, but he knows whats best for the colony. His behavior can be appropriete when the colonists get too lazy so he has to force them to work. But over all, John Smith is a hard worker and he knows what to do in a hard situation. The colonists treat Pocahantas with respect after Smith told them that she was a friend. They percieved her as a savior.I think the colonists will repay her act of kindness. Pocahantas has a good nature and wants to save the colony from starvation. She also misses Smith. Her Father might react kind of angry but he loves her and respects her desisions so he will undeerstand. Pocahantas is a kind and curious woman who helps others even though she might upset her father.

I believe that the Powahatan spared John Smith's life because Pocahontas intervened and told her father, the Chief of the Powahatan, that he is good for them. Her father expects her to communicate between each group and not to fall in love with John Smith because he is not one of them. When John Smith gets back to Jamestown he finds that many of the men have died and they were in need of a new leader to keep things under control. The settlement is very dirty and poor looking compared to what he was dealing with while staying with the Indians. The English are surviving very poorly to say the least. They have ran out of food, clean water, energy, people, and time. John Smith, by the looks of it, is a pretty effective leader. He has made people start working for what they need to survive and all of them wanted to survive so they worked. Also, he got a water well set up for the colony. The colonists recognize that he can get stuff done correctly and quickly. Yes, I do believe that this type of personality is useful because it can save your life. I think that Smith is unique because he was able to communicate with the Indians which in the long run helped Jamestown continue being a colony when they brought them food so they wouldn't starve to death. The colonists treat Pocahontas as a savior by bowing to her and taking of their hats as she walks by. I think the people of Jamestown will repay Pocahontas by protecting them from any Spaniards or other people searching the New World. I believe Pocahontas gave the colony food because of her feelings for Smith and for her empathy towards the dying colonists. I think her father will forbid her from talking to John Smith and associating with the colony any further. Pocahontas is a young woman that is looking to do whats right even if her people believe its wrong. She is one to follow her heart and to listen to what her gut thinks is right for her to do.

I believe that Powhatan spared smith by keeping him high ranked which practically saved him. The role of Pocahontas was to save John smith but in her dads ways it was not to be with him or have any type of relationship with him because he isn't one of them. He finds a bunch of people who need his help when he got back to Jamestown. The condition was terrible and you can tell they were lacking a lot. The English were barely surviving, it looked as if they didn't have much more in them. John smith was a very effective leader, without him I don't think the English had a shot of living. They find that he can be a really good leader and someone to look up to, he knew what he was doing. No, they are not aspects of an arrogant bully in smiths personality because they treat him with respect. There are so many times when that kind of personality can be useful especially a lot of leadership and loyalty. I do think there was something special about smith, the fact that he kept Jamestown going was incredible, and the fact that he made good relationships with a ton of people so fast, just proves that he was something. The Colonist treat Pocahontas with some what of respect because she did a lot for them. She was perceived with trustworthy and kindness. I think they will pay her back by being extremely generous and helping her out when she needs it. I think its her feelings for Smith, there's something on her mind that makes her love him and being hooked with him. I don't think her father will be fine with it because she didn't listen. She is a very helpful young women. I would describe her differently then anyone else, she was someone anyone would want in their life.

I think Powahatan spared Smith not only because his daughter asked him to but also so he could understand the colonists and asses the threat. Pocahontas' role is as the connection between two worlds. Her father expects her to learn about Smith's people and the culture and maybe even see if they can become allies. When Smith returns the settlement is in horrible condition, the people are sick, starving and overall dying. Smith becomes a very effective leader because he puts the colonists priorities in order and forces them all to work. I think that the colonists recognize that he is a powerful soldier, strong leader and a survivor. I think that there is aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith but this is a useful personality when needed to be tough in order to help these people live. What special about smith is that he used to be a solider and he has a strong will to survive, which makes him essential to the story of Jamestown. The colonist are thankful to Pocahontas that she brought food and saved them, they bow to her as she walks by. She is perceived as their generous savior and I think that they want to repay her act of kindness. I think that she does feed the English at great risk because of her feelings for Smith but also I really think she does empathize with the colonist. I think her father will be angry she helped them when he finds out but maybe hopeful that they can become allied. Pocahontas is so extraordinary because she dares to defy laws in order to help others.

John Smith was an effective leader because he told the colonists to leave the Indians alone, so that caused the Indians to give the colonists food. The colonists recognize Smith as a good leader that does the right thing. No, Smith had no aspects of being a bully even though he was irritating. I don't think Smith being irritating is useful at all, but Smith can also be kind which is very useful so they can get along with the Indians. I believe that Smith's ways of being a leader is essential to the story of Jamestown because he helped a lot of people. After Pocahontas led Indians to give the colonists food, the colonists treated Pocahontas like royalty and bowed to her. I think that colonists will start to get along with the Indians because they helped them. I believe Pocahontas fed the colonists because of her love for John Smith. I think when Pocahontas's father finds out she helped the colonists he will forbid her from seeing Smith. I describe Pocahontas has kind and she does whatever she believes is the right thing to do.

Powahatans spared Smith's life, but it was Pocahontas who actually did it. She saved him but jumping on top of him so that they didn't kill him. Pocahontas' father believes that she will be there to work with him continuously to learn more about the Europeans culture, and be able to communicate, but later this changes. When Smith returns to Jamestown, he finds that the English are doing bad. When he enters the fort, three boys approach him asking "where he has been, and that they are starving and haven't eaten, and that many people have died." Smith is very effective, I believe. He is very effective because he helps save everyone, and he is able to communicate with the Powahatans. They think he is very good at bringing together the two worlds, and is very brave. No there is no aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith's personality. I believe that Smith is very unique. He is unique because he was able to bring the two cultures together and be able to communicate with each other.
The colonists treat Pocahontas gracefully. They praise her for coming out of her way and bringing the food to them as an act of generosity.I believe they will repay her by giving her gold and other things that they have with them that they will like.I believe that Pocahontas will both empathize with the plight of the English and for her feelings for John Smith, that she feeds the colony against her fathers wishes. I think she does this both, because she understands what the English are going through and feel bad for them. I also believe she does it so then she can see John Smith. I think her father will think it was wrong because she is putting the English before her culture. Pocahontas is extremely generous, helpful and loving.

Powhatan spared Smith’s life because of Pocahontas. Pocahontas intervenes and begs to spare Smith’s life and she jumps in to save his life and she believed that he didn’t deserve to die and Powhatan also believed this and wanted to make his favorite daughter happy, so he spared Smith. Pocahontas’ role was to be the connection and translator between the colonists and the Indians. Her father expected that she would side with her people no matter what as the two cultures continue to attempt to understand each other. When Smith returns to Jamestown, he sees that many people have died of starvation and disease, also a bad leader has taken over. The condition of the settlement is very poor and dirty and the English are barely surviving and struggling to maintain their health and the settlement. Smith is a very efficient leader. The colonists recognize that Smith is a great leader and he can help the people of Jamestown to survive because of his determination and bravery. There are some aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith’s personality such as how he pushes his people to work, but this is for their benefit and like in this case, this sort of personality can be useful. Yes, Smith is very unique and his determination, bravery, and leadership make him essential to the story of Jamestown because he helps them to survive, and without him the colony would have been destroyed quickly. The colonists treat Pocahontas very well with kindness and thankfulness; they bowed down and thanked her as she walked out. I believe they will repay her act of kindness by bringing food, and giving her treasures such as gold and teaching her the culture of the English. Pocahontas took such a risk of feeding the English because of her feelings for John Smith. I believe that her father will be very angry when he finds out that she helped Smith and the English. Pocahontas is a very kind and sweet young woman who puts everybody before herself and is willing and determined to help the world. Pocahontas could be described as an angel and savior by the English.

The Powahatan spared John Smiths life because of Pocahontas. Pocahontas believed that he was good and was not a threat. Pocahontas is the bridge between the two worlds. She is curios and eager to learn about the new world as much as possible. Her Father expects her to always put the people of their tribe first even over her own heart. When John Smith gets back to Jamestown things are not well in the colony. The conditions are horrible people are very dirty and a large amount of them are dead. Not only is their food running very low but also their freshwater. John Smith is a good leader but has a very big task. John Smith is harsh and tough but that is just what Jamestown needs to grow stronger again. John Smith is very effective he is able to get lazy to work and has the right set of mind. This kind of personality is use full because he wont take slaking and laziness he is to the point and is able to accomplish that a lot. I think that John Smith is a born leader the task does not intimidate him and he is ready to step up and take charge in Jamestown. Without John Smith Jamestown might not have survived. I feel that Pocahontas did this because of her feelings and also because she knew they needed help and wanted to provide the help for them. The colonist treated Pocahontas with much respect bowing and taking off their hats as she walked by. I think her father will be angry with her for her actions, because he is threatened by them. Pocahontas is a extraordinary young women she knows what right and does it she is not afraid she wants to help.

I think Powahatan spared Smith's live because his daughter intervened. Pocahontas's role was to teach Smith about their traditions and learn about theirs, the English. Her father expected to put her people first, no matter what. After Smith returns home from living the Natives he finds a fort, with a few houses in it. He also finds starvation and an unjust leader who will kill anyone who will speak out against him. The condition of the settlement was horrible, it was dirty with nothing to eat and kids running around. The English are barely surviving, they have no food and diseases are taking many lives from them. Smith after this takes over the camp and becomes a very effective leader. He gets food for them and urges them to work hard, he does not kill out of the ordinary and encourages the settlers to work inside the fort, being proactive instead of digging for gold. The colonists recognize that Smith is really leading them and trying to do whats best for them. There are some arrogant bully parts in Smith when he screams "who shall not work shall not eat" but for the most part he's not. Even though he's sometimes like this its to get the colonists to do work so I think it can be useful. In my opinion I do think that Smith is special with his connection with the Natives. When Pocahontas brings food for the settlers, they treat her with very much respect and bow to her when she leaves. She is perceived as an outsider but one who is not violent and wants to help. I think that they will repay her act of kindness by helping her, and her people when in need. Even though I do think Pocahontas wanted to help the settlers, I think it was her feelings for John Smith that drove the act of kindness. I think her father will be upset that she took such risks but not unreasonable because no one got hurt. Pocahontas is a kind, helpful, strong young woman who in the end saved Jamestown and was the connection between the Old and New Worlds.

I think Powahatan spared John Smiths life because he's daughter Pocahontas asked him too. I think he only spared his life because he realizes their can be some benefits to it. I also think he didn't want to upset Pocahontas. Also her father gives her a opportunity to learn English so she can communicate with with the settlers. When John Smith gets back to Jamestown he sees that everyone it starving and that everyone is slowly dying because of the water and diseases. James Smith is a very effective leader because he got food for them taught how to grow food and he also made them work harder. But he still took care of them. They treat her back with the same kindness. They treat her really nice. I think they will repay her by giving her goods like jewels or something. I think she's only taking a risk because she has caught feelings for James Smith. I think he'll be very angry with her and he'll kick the colony out. I think shes every kind and helps out a other group risking her self just so they would survive. I thinks she every brave and strong.

I think that Powahatan spared Smiths life because he thought that they could use Smith's knowledge and skills to their advantage. Because of this, Powahatan assigned Pocahontas to working with Smith and learning things from him such as his language. However, he does not expect them to fall in love and he told Pocahontas that she should always put her people first. When Smith is released back to Jamestown, he finds that the people are suffering. They're dirty, hungry, and don't have clean water. Many are dying and cannibalism is taking place due to starvation. After Smith takes place as the leader, things start to get better. Everyone gets put to work. He said "He who does not work shall not eat." The colonist start picking up they're work and eventually things are achieved such as finding clean drinking water. Even though he is putting them to work, I still think that the colonist appreciate what he is doing for them. I think that he is essential to Jamestown because everyone would have died if he didn't find clean water for them. When Pocahontas brings them food, everyone is thankful. I also think that they will help the Indians in the future and John Smith will visit them to give his thanks.Pocahontas probably brought them food because she wanted to see John Smith and I think that this will disappoint her father and she will no longer be allowed to go to the colony. Pocahontas is her own person who would stand up to her father to do something that she believes in. She is also inlove with John Smith and will do whatever she can to be with him.

Powahtatan spared Smith because Pocahontas his favorite daughter whom everyone loved threw her body in front of Smith to save him. Chief Powahatan could clearly see there was some type of connection between Smith and Pocahontas if she was willing to risk her life for him. The role Pocahontas played was to learn about the English culture, but to also at the same time teach him some of their own. She basically serves as a bridge between the new world because she is the chiefs daughter and very close to Smith. It also helps that she can speak both languages and serve as a translator. Her father expects her to put her people before herself at all times. When Smith returns to Jamestown he finds his men starving, almost no supplies left, many of his men dead, and no optimism. The settlement is falling apart fast and barely hanging on. The English are barely surviving many have died and many are sick. Smith is a great leader who gets his men down to business right away. He even states "he who does not work shall not eat. I understand that this may sound a little harsh, but this was exactly what the people of Jamestown needed to be motivated to work and keep the colony alive. There are a few signs of Smith being a bully, but as I previously stated this behavior was not for nothing the people needed something to get them started and working. This type of personality is needed in a leader and it is Smith and his personality that keep the colony alive. In my opinion the colony would have failed because Smith was crucial to the success of the colony. Without him the colony would have had poor leadership and would have gotten worse than how he found it when he returned. The colonists treat Pocahontas as if she is a goddess they thank her profusely and even bow down to her. The colonists are so thankful because without the food they will most likely starve to death and the colony will result in a fail. I think they will repay her by showing them their many advances such as their muskets and compasses. I believe Pocahontas feels bad for the starving colonists and genuinely wants to help them , but she also does it for John Smith. It is obvious she has feelings for him and wants to help him and his people survive. In my opinion her father will be infuriated that she disobeyed him and supplied them with necessary food that they so desperately needed. Pocahontas is a selfless, brave, hero to the colonists. Without her aid the colony most likely would have failed. She could have ignored them and forgotten about Smith and the others, but instead she went against her own father and risked everything just to help the colonists.

I think Powahatan spared Smith because Pocahontas jumped on top of Smith telling Powahatan to spare Smith. The role of Pocahontas was to save Smith and be the connector of New and Old World. The settlement is very poor, people are sick, hungry, and overall just in a poor condition. The English are struggling to survive. Smith is a very effective leader. The colonists recognize that he is a great leader. There are some aspects of a bully in Smith's personality which is a benefit for the colony. He likes forcing people to do work, which is beneficial. Yes this personality is very useful at times. I think Smith's leadership is very special and his courage. The colonists treated Pocahontas with great respect, bowing to her. She is perceived as very kind and generous. I think the colonists will repay Pocahontas with horses, dogs, and things that aren't familiar to the Natives. I think her relationship with Smith is the reason for her feeding the colonists. I think her father will be furious with her. Pocahontas went in front of John, which caused Powhatan to spare Smith. The role of the Pocahontas was to communicate and trade with them. Her father expected her to loyal to the Native Americans. He didn't want her to with John too much.
When John came back, he discovered the horrible conditions he was in. Many people were sick and they were starving. The English did not survive very well. John was an effective leader. He was forceful for a good cause. He wasn't a dictator but he forced everyone do something to do something. If they didn't, they were punished which was irritating to the colonists. Smith does have an arrogant bully in his personality which is good to have at some times. Much of us have that type of personality but John has the courage to survive in these conditions instead of going back to England.
The colonist treat Pocahontas as a queen, bowing down to her as she leaves the fort. They will probably repay her with gems or metals later. Pocahontas has feelings for John Smith which caused her to take a risk for the colonist's well being. She even tried holding John's hand. Her Father will be very disappointed once he finds about this because she broke his wishes not to help them. They just wanted to communicate. This woman is a hero, saving the colonists at a time of need. 130

I think that Powahatan spared Smith because he believes that Smith could give him lots of knowledge that he doesn't know. Also because Pocahontas threw herself in front of Smith to save him. Then Powahatan told her that she is to learn about the English cuture. The settlement was not very wealthy. They had no food and everyone was becoming sick. Later on Smith returns and becomes the new leader. He didn't kill someone without a reason, he got food for them, and he urged them to work. Smith had just the right personality to be a leader. I believe that if it wasn't for Smith then Jamestown would of fallen apart. Later on i do think that they will repay them. A majority of the reason that Pocahontas helped the English is because her relation to Smith. Pocahontas was a very kind and helpful person.

I think Pocahontas spared smiths life because she knows that his intentions weren’t bad, and that he simply just doesn’t understand the Indian culture. Pocahontas was the translator between the two cultures and her father wanted her to learn more about the English culture as well as teach them more about her own culture. John smith soon discovers that everyone in Jamestown is starving and dying of diseases. The condition of the settlement is pretty poor considering they have no food and there is less people now that many settlers have died. John smith does help them get back on their feet and gives them all an actual chance for surviving, but there are hints of a bully in his personality. I think that there are certain situations where this characteristic can be useful. Such as, when someone needs to be motivated to do something. I do believe john smith was essential to the story of Jamestown because many settlers wouldn’t have survived without him. The colonists treat Pocahontas very well. She is seen as a savior and they reward her for her kindness by teaching her the ways of the English. Pocahontas is a generous and kind woman. She helped people she should have considered the enemy and she is part of the reason they survived.

I think Powahatan spared smiths life because of Pocahontas telling him not to kill him. The role of Pocahontas was to save smith and be the connector of the new and old world. Powahatan spared John Smith because when his daughter intervened it made him realize that he could learn a lot from John and the englishmen. Pocahontas becomes very close with John and starts to become the peace maker between the two teams. Her father expects her to always put her tribe before the englishmen. John Smith finds people starving, hungry, sick and dead. The settlement is almost destroyed. The English are not surviving well at all. John Smith was a very effective leader. The colonists recognize his leadership abilities and acknowledge his power. There are some aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith's personality. There are definitely times where smith's personality is useful. John Smith is very certain in everything he has done so far and that makes him essential to the survival of Jamestown.

The colonists treat Pocahontas and all of the natives with an uncertainty,  they did not know how to react. I do not think the English will repay the her. Pocahontas' feelings push her to go against her father. Her father will be very upset and angry with her; especially after he told her to put her tribe before her heart. Pocahontas is very kind-hearted, passionate,  and loving. She is an extrodinary person.

Powahatan spared Smith because he knew that the new people from England didn't know them very well. The role of Pocahontas is to provide a link between the English and the Natives. When Smith returns, he finds starving people and the path is headed towards failure. Smith gives them a motive to work, which is why he is a good leader. He forced people to do their work though, which the colonists found irratating. This can be useful because it gets everyone working. Smith is sort of a bully, because he "bosses" people around. Smith is unique because it finds the good in the Natives which the other colonists automatically thought were bad in the beginning. The colonists like Pocahontas because they give them food. This may lead to more peace between the two groups.

Powhaten most likely spared John Smiths life, because of his daughter throwing herself upon him before his people could attack Smith. He kept Smith around for the happiness of his daughter, Pocahontas, and because he trusts her reasoning. Pocahontas role was helping connect the worlds, because of her connection to Smith. She led to the understanding between the two groups. Her father expected her to put her own people before others. When he was released back into Jamestown, he found a smaller population, people going hungry, and disease ridden people. The settlement is practically deteriorating. Smith appears to be a good leader, as he tries to do everything in his power to make the overall condition of Jamestown better. The colonists realize that he is trying to find a way for them to live no matter what. Smith appeared to have some traits of being a bully, when he was saying things to his people, to get them to start working harder. He acted that way so they would start acting on the need to survive. It is useful to have this sort of personality, because it propels everyone, including the one with the personality trait, forward, and to work harder. Smith had the thoughts of an American, and wanted to work as hard as he could to survive, and make his life there, as good as it could be. That is what made him unique. Pocahontas does great acts for the colonists, and I believe that they will repay her back, by showing her the technology they have. That would help her tribe move forward. I think that her feelings for John Smith is making her defy her father and do this. Her father will most likely react with anger, and remind her that they also need that food to live. Pocahontas seems like a very kind person and is very generous.

When John Smith returns to Jamestown he finds it in a state of death, disease, and starvation. The settlement is failing, and without guidance, Jamestown will fall, and quickly. The English are starting to lose hope, and are beginning to be desperate. John Smith is one of the most effective leaders in history. The colonists find if they look past his irritant behavior, they find a man willing to do whatever he can to help save their lives. John Smith knows that Jamestown is dying, and he knows a leader must emerge to save them, and he realizes that he can find that leadership within himself, and accepts his role as the leader, John Smith's arrogance is one of the factors that saves Jamestown, he wants what he asks to be completed, and "He who does not work shall not eat" in his own words. Smith is one of the few privileged and gifted people in our history that used there weaknesses to their benefit, and exploited them in order to help themselves, their people, and their country/town. The colonists treat Pocahontas as a friend, as they know she is helping to try and save the colonist's lives. Pocahontas is perceived as a helper to John Smith and when the colonists catch on to that they treat her with kindness and respect. I think the colonists will repay her kindness with sharing information but eventually, sadly, the colonists do lead to the end of the great colonies and villages of the Native Americans. I think it is a mix of both her feelings for John Smith and the plight of the English that make her feed the colony, she is a compassionate girl and feels the pain of the colony but also has strong feelings for John Smith. I think Pocahontas' father will be extremely upset when he finds out what she has done, and will lose trust with his daughter and rethink his feeling for the English invaders. Pocahontas, like John Smith, is a person who puts others before herself, who only cares about the survival of friends and loved ones, and all of this adds up to the birth of an amazing girl. She is one of the most important people throughout all of history, and man-kind, a statement I do not place lightly.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because Pocahontas clearly did not want him to die. Pocahontas became the connection point of the two cultures as they try to understand each other. Her father probably expects her to be the translator and to help her people understand John Smith and English colonists’ intentions.
John Smith, upon his return to Jamestown, finds desolation and bleakness. The colonists look unhealthy and malnourished. The English are not surviving well. John Smith is an effective leader, and the colonists recognize this because he is fearless and will take charge if called for. This is demonstrated when he kills the president. I do believe there are aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith’s personality; however, these traits are balanced out with good ones, such as good leadership skills and courage. This personality could be useful when trying to intimidate someone or stand up to a corrupt leader. Smith is essential to the story of Jamestown because he is manipulative in the sense that he can get things he wants through deceit. He also displays composure in difficult situations, which was much needed during the time of Jamestown’s development when there were many unexpected twists and turns.
When Pocahontas brings food for the colony, she is treated with gratitude and respect. I think the colonists will repay her kindness by being more considerate of the Indians’ boundaries. It was probably Pocahontas’s feelings for John Smith that gave her an impetus to go against her father’s wishes and provide food for the colony. I think her father will be angered that Pocahontas did this without his permission. Pocahontas is a confident and thoughtful person; one who will do what she feels is right even if it puts her in danger. This is shown in her risking her life for John Smith, who was a complete stranger to her at the time.

I think the Powahatan spared Smith because he knew that he could teach Pocahontas new things and teach them all new ideas. Pocahontas's role is to teach Smith their way of life and for her to learn important things like language. Smith taught her English in exchange for learning how to grow corn and how to hunt. Pocahontas's father expects her to always put her people first. He finds lack of food, disease, and many men have died. The settlement has a lack of supplies and is falling apart. The English are barely surviving, some resorted to cannibalism. Smith is a very effective leader because he put them to work so they can make life better for them. " He who does not work shall not eat," is a command he used to get his men to work harder. The colonists recognize that he is harsh, but he his doing this to benefit them in the future. Smith's personality can be characterized as an arrogant bully at times. He makes the men work hard, even when they are weak and shows no emotion for the men who lost their lives. Smith's personality is useful because without him pushing them and working them so hard, Jamestown would never had survived as long as it did. I think Smith's leadership is essential to the story of Jamestown because without him, they would be in even worse conditions and they would have unfair and poor leadership. The colonists treated Pocahontas with respect because the natives would bring them food and other supplies that helped them to survive. She is perceived as almost a goddess because she would bring the colonists food which helped them to stay alive longer. I think they will repay her by teaching her more English, and showing her their weapons and advanced technology. I think it is her feelings for John Smith that cause her to take such a risk and feed the colony against her father's wishes. She does this just so she can see Smith again. I think her father will be angry because she is putting their needs before hers, which goes against what he told her. Also he will be mad because she took their supplies that they need and gave them to the enemy. Pocahontas is a passionate, selfless, and brave young women. She is willing to help the colonists even if her father doesn't like it. She is a hero to the colonists and an extraordinary young women.

I think Powahatan spared Smith because of Pocahontas telling him to spare his life. Her father tells her to put her people before John Smith and his people. When he comes back to the settlement it is doing horribly and everyone is starving. It’s not in very good condition. Smith is a very effective leader and gets the people to work and try to get out of this “starving time”. I think he can be a little arrogant at times but his personality is very important to the colony and he is the one who really saves the colony. The colonists are happy to finally have food when Pocahontas arrives with her help. She probably did it because of John Smith but it was extraordinary nonetheless. Pocahontas is an extremely smart young woman that saves the colony from starving to death.

Smith was an effective leader of the colonists and even if they found he was irritating or harsh when he said those who do not work do not eat, his personality was one that people respected. Sometimes you need a person with this type of personality who can be a leader and push people beyond their limits to get things accomplished. During this time when people were struggling and starving a leader with an easy going personality who let the colonists be lazy would not have been useful.
Pocahontas had a lot of empathy towards the settlers of Jamestown and when they had no food she and the natives brought food and seeds to plant to help the colonists. She was well received by them probably because she was helpful but also because of how she put her own life on the line and intervened between her father and John Smith and saved him. Pocahontas had a big role in the survival of the Jamestown colony. Her father would be proud of her for standing up for herself and doing what she felt was the right thing. While he appreciates the connection she has with the English people, he still wants her to put her people first.

James life may have been spared because of the hope and kindness he showed. James did not appear as threatening or against the natives as the other colonists did. James was open to their culture and let them explore his clothes and face along with his possessions. Pocahontas was the link between the two cultures and her father expects her to always put her people and even her heart before the colonists and to be careful with James since he is not one of the natives. Her father reminds her of who she is and where she came from so that she may not forget when the two cultures try to understand each other. When James Smith is released, he comes back to Jamestown to see starvation, disease, etc. The condition of this settlement was not good at all in fact, many of the colonists died because there was no food or clean water to drink. Smith was an effective leader because he focused more on the essentials rather than wealth rather the colonists only worries about gold rather than finding food and building better housing. The colonists saw his bossiness irritating but helpful in their survival. Smith bossy personality was very useful to get the colony back on track. One unique thing about Smith is his ability to adapt to other cultures and perceive himself to be a friendly peaceful person to other cultures. The colonists are very thankful for Pocahontas's generosity in spite of their wrong doings to her people. Pocahontas is perceived to pretty much be a savior for her generosity. I think the colonists would do anything for Pocahontas in order to repay her enormous acts of kindness. I think Pocahontas's actions were both from empathy for the English and for Smith whom she had such a great connection with. I think Pocahontas's father would be very angry for disobeying his commands to not help the enemy and punish her but also be proud of her kindness and may hide his pride for his daughter. Pocahontas is a strong, and generous woman who would be a great influence on children to forgive people who have done you wrong.

I believe the reason Powahatan spared Smith because his daughter stood up and protected him. You can tell that he has a lot of trust in his daughter. Pocahontas’s role is the connection between the natives and the English. She connects the two groups. Her father tells her she must put her people before everything else. This includes her heart.
When Smith goes back to the colonies her sees his people suffering. They are sick and starving. Smith is then recognized as a leader. He becomes very effective. The colonists notice that he is able to communicate with the natives. I do not believe Smith’s personality is like person who is very arrogant. He is able to successfully run a colony and colony is able to survive. Smith has a very unique because he did many things that were very different. He traded with the Indians and obtained corn, which helped his people survive.
At first the colonist believed the natives were savages, but that changed later on after they had helped them. They will repay her with jewels and weapons. She feels sorrow for the English but most of all the feeling she had for Smith. Although, I believe that her father will disapprove because she is putting her feelings for his before her people. I would describe Pocahontas as a kind and generous person.

The reason Powhatan spared smith is because Pocahontas went in front of Smith. The role that Pocahontas played was to communicate and trade with the colonists. What her father expected is her to be loyal to the Native Americans, and not spend too much time with Smith. When he arrived back he discovered how horrible the condition of the colony was. They were starving many people dying from this and from disease. Smith was an effective leader. He was forceful and demanding but it was for good. He had a way to get people to do the things necessary for survival. If they didn’t do this, they were punished. This personality can be useful because it can make people do the things that need to be done because they are intimidated by the person in charge. I think the special thing about Smith is his ability to be a good leader while still being demanding and getting the colonists to get stuff done. The colonists treat Pocahontas as a queen, as they bowed down to her as she left the fort. I believe they will repay her acts of kindness with gems or metals. Yes, her feelings for John smith cause her to take risks that help the colonists get through tough times. Yes, her father will be disappointed because he expected her to still be loyal to the Native Americans and not help the colonists. I think this woman is a hero for helping the people that shaped our world.

I think Powhatan spared John Smith not only because Pocahontas, his favorite daughter, jumped in front of the people about to kill Smith but because John Smith had a lot of goods to offer. Smith brought and showed off his compass and gunpowder. Pocahontas was the connector between the two worlds, old and new, and she also provided food for the colonists. Of the two cultures Pocahontas was expected by her father to remain completely loyal to her people and to never join their side because of her own heart.
When John Smith returns to Jamestown he finds that everyone is starving and there is no food to be found. the condition of the settlement is poor. Nothing new was discovered to help them out and their main leader had died. The English are not surviving very well because they are not used to the natural habitat and are dying from salt water poisoning.
Smith is a very good leader because with the previous leaders, no work was getting done the right way at the right pace and that was not helpful to a surviving colony. This was not good for Jamestown and smith helped stop that laziness by telling the colonists that only those who work will eat. The colonist recognize that even though he is irritating to those who don't necessarily like him, he is only trying his hardest to help the colony rise and thrive so that they are able to send more Englishmen in as soon as possible and to a safe environment. In some cases i can see the aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith because he is always feeling the need to show that people must work and if they don't he will obviously be harsher toward them because if their priority is not to help the colony thrive then there is no reason for them to even be there at all. Yes, there are times when this is useful for instance if the colonists are not motivated at all to work then nothing will be done and they will all die with no thriving colony at all. I think that Smith is important to the Jamestown story because he is the real reason why it thrives in my opinion. Without him motivation the colonists to work there would be no United states of America.
When Pocahontas is leaving the fort the colonist are all bowing down to her out of appreciation and thankfulness that she is the reason they will survive and continue to prosper with the colonization on Jamestown. She is perceived to be a kind person who is sent from god to save their colony. I think that the way they will repay her is by giving them good trade able items and also the idea of trade that England and all of Europe had already established. I think that she does this to help the colony and thank Smith for being with the Indians for so long and helping them as well. I think her father will translate this act as an act of disloyalty to her people. He will be upset with her. Pocahontas is a kind person only looking for the good in people and always willing to help them. I would describe her as naive and humble yet kind at the same time as being as loyal as possible to her people.

The Powahatan spared Smith because of Pocahontas’s compassion for him. She was Smith’s savior, and her father expected her to put her people before him no matter how attached she becomes to him. When John Smith returns to Jamestown the colonists were starving, freezing, and in bad condition. The English could barely survive without his leadership, and a settler even resorted to eating a dead man’s hands off. Smith, however, received help from his newly made Native American friends, which saved the settlers from dying. He was an effective leader, for he refused to let anyone go without working to get their food. Although some men found this rule irritating, it was what kept them alive. Smith was an arrogant bully, but without that arrogance the colonists would have died within months, making his stubborn personality useful. Smith did have a soft side, which was what made the friendship between Pocahontas and himself. His ability to act and his cleverness makes him essential to the story of Jamestown. The colonists treat Pocahontas as their savior, bowing to her and giving her respect. They will most likely repay her and her people with guns and tools that the Native Americans are not able to create. Although historians deny a romantic relationship between Smith and Pocahontas, they still had a deep connection. This connection compelled Pocahontas to go against her father’s wishes and feed the colony. Her father will try to have Smith killed for making Pocahontas betray his wishes. Pocahontas was a stubborn, compassionate, yet respectful young woman. She deserves to be named Jamestown’s savior for her extraordinary actions.

Jon Smith was an effective leader once he returned from the Natives. Obviously he was effective because otherwise, Jamestown would have died out. He has the ability to get the colonists out of any situation using his basic knowledge of survival skills. The colonists eventually realize this but almost find him irritating because he treats them almost like slaves. There are diffidently aspects of bullying in Smith’s personality. He can sound very harsh, and he makes many demands. He runs Jamestown almost like a Monarchy. However, Smith’s personality does help them in the long run and saves Jamestown, even though the colonists don’t even realize it. Smith is a very vital source for Jamestown. He thought of things no one else did. He thought about trading with the Natives rather than trying to kill them off and his thoughtful actions led to the rise of Jamestown. He had to take many risks but still accomplished what needed to be done anyway. They treat Pocahontas with great respect, realizing this with help the colony very well. She is perceived almost as a savior of Jamestown. I think they will repay the Natives with the jewels and goods that appeal to them. The Natives were very fond of the shiny objects and jewels the English had. If it wasn’t for Jon Smith, then Pocahontas probably wouldn’t have helped the English and Chief Powhaton probably would have taken over the colony by then. Chief Powhaton would probably be mad at her daughter considering that Chief Powhaton wanted to keep their colony at bay in case they rise up. This proves that Pocahontas is a very thoughtful person even of her adversaries.

I think Powahatam spared Smith because Pochahontas was his favorite daughter and he trusted her senses to let him live. Pocahontas was Smith's savior. Her father expects her to be the connection between the two cultures and try to be the leader in understanding the Europeans way of life and intentions in Virginia. When he gets back to Jamestown John Smith finds a shattered colony, almost everyone was dead and the rest living were diseased and ill. The settlement is in absolutely terrible condition. The English can barely survive on a day to day basis. John Smith is a very effective leader because of his firm orders and the way he unites the colony. He is very bossy and sometimes mean similar to an arrogant bully. I think sometimes this personality can be useful when it comes to situations like this that strong leadership is required. Smith is special because of his very distinguishable leadership. This leadership was crucial to the survival of Jamestown because with lazy gentlemen sitting around the necessary work in the colony will never get done. The colonists greatly respect Pocahontas and are thankful for her gift. I think they will repay her with goods from Europe such as precious stones, metals, and gunpowder. I think it was her feelings for John Smith that cause her to go against her father because as soon as she gets to Jamestown she searches for Smith. I think her father will be very angry and maybe try to destroy Jamestown. I would describe Pocahontas as a daring, loving, and brave person.

I think Powahatan spared John Smith's life because Pocahontas jumped on top of him when they we're about to murder him, to save his life. I think the only reason he spared his life was because he didn't want to upset Pocahontas because he loved her. He had over one hundred sons and daughters yet he loved her the most. He also knew that John Smith would teach her all about the land over the ocean. And he knew that this may bring them closer to peace. But I really think he wanted to be nice to John Smith so they would let there guard down and they could get close up and attack. But what Powahatan didn't know was that John Smith was going to be "one of them" the whole tribe and he especially didn't see. Jim growing on Pocahontas at all. He saw something happening between them so he sent John Smith back to his camp Jamestown.

The Powhatan spared John Smiths's life because Pocahontas jumped in front of him when they were going to execute him. The role of Pocahontas was that she saved Smith and Jamestown. Her father expects Pocahontas to be true to her own culture and not to get too caught up with the European's culture. When Smith gets back to Jamestown, he finds many people dead or with diseases. The condition of the settlement is really dangerous because people have deadly diseases. The English are surviving poorly. John Smith is very effective as a leader. He has confidence and good leadership. No Smith isn't arrogant, he tries to help Jamestown as much as possible. Yes, this sort of personality can be very useful. Smith is a very hardworking person and makes everyone else in Jamestown work hard too so they can survive. The colonists treat Pocahontas with great respect because she saved their lives. She is percieved as a good person because she got the "natives" to trade food with the Europeans so they could live. The colonists will highly respect her and will probably repay her in food and other materials. I think Pocahontas was curious about the colonists and wanted to know more about them, thats why she went against her father's wishes. Pocahontas is a very kind and curious young woman.

I think that Powahatan spared Smith because he cares a lot about his daughter and she didn't want him to kill him. Pocahontas saved Smiths life and her father expects her to put her people before anyone else. Smith is a very effective leader. He trades with the Indians and gains many of their trust. He knows how to communicate with them and understands them. When he gets back to Jamestown he finds many sick people and someone tried to overthrow him from his captaincy. The settlement was in very poor condition and the men were very sick and angry. I don't think there are aspects of arrogant bully in Smith's personality. His sort of personality can be useful when someone doesn't do what he wants or when he needs to get the job done. The fact that Smith understands the Powahatan tribe is what is special about Smith. He likes the way they live which makes him able to learn quickly. The colonists treat Pocahontas with a lot of respect and thank her for her generosity. I think that they will spare them their land for a little bit because of her act of kindness. I think she does this with plight of the English because she doesn't feel against them like her father and she knows they are suffering and need help. I think her father will be very angry with her when he finds out she helped them because he hates them and wants her to help her own people before others. Pocahantas is a very generous and caring women that does things to help people before herself.

Powhatan spared Smith because Pocahontas had a connection with him. Pocahontas practically saved his life. Her father probably expects her to stick with her own people. Although she can be let into how Smith and the other colonists live. By spending more time together, Smith and Pocahontas both can learn from another. When John Smith returned to Jamestown, he found that he colonists were starving. People were dying and there was not enough food for everyone. Smith says, “He who does not work shall not eat,” This shows John Smith was a leader and knew what needed to be done in order for Jamestown to thrive. He has their priorities straight by trying to do things that will help them survive besides just searching for gold. Smith’s actions may make him come off as a bully. However he is just emphasizing what is best for the colony. The colonists need this kind of personality if they want to survive. I think John Smith is essential to the story of Jamestown development because he had the leadership skills that affected the colony in a good way. He was able to get his point across. Pocahontas is treated with kindness. The colonists bow down to her as a show of respect. Pocahontas is perceived as a hero because she gave them corn, their major food source. Although there is no real proof of a love connection between Pocahontas and John Smith, I think she helped them because of her feelings. She probably saw that the colonists needed help. I think he father will not be happy that she helped them. He specifically said stay true to your own. Pocahontas is a sweet, loving, and giving person. She was never disrespectful to anyone. She is very welcoming. Also, she helps the ones who are supposed to be her enemy.

I think that the Powahatan spared Smith because they were curious about the many things Smith brought with him on his journey to the new world. Pocahontas was the main reason that Smith wasn't killed because she threw herself on top of Smith to stop her fellow Indians from killing Smith. Pocahontas' father wanted her to put her people first. This meant that she should never get to close with the Europeans. John Smith is a very effective leader. Smith may not be the nicest leader, but he gets the job done. The colonists recognize that Smith wants to make the colony successful, so they do as he says. I think that Smith's personality can be very effective in leading a small colony, or even a very large colony. I think what makes John Smith unique is his ability to communicate with the Indians. The colonists treat Pocahontas like a god because the colony is having a tough time staying warm and having enough food. Pocahontas brings them food, blankets, and other supplies. I believe that the colonists will repay Pocahontas' act of kindness by giving the Indians some of their own goods. I think that the main reason she sent the supplies to the colonists is because of her relations with John Smith. I think that her father will be furious with Pocahontas when she returns. Pocahontas is a very mature young woman. I think that she is a major reason that the colony was able to survive.

The Powahatan spared Smith for two reasons, because Pocahontas jumped in front of the Indians, and because the Chief knew that he could learn about the English settlers through John Smith. The role of Pocahontas was to learn everything she could about the English settlers. Her father expects her to get close enough to him to find out all the secrets of the English settlers, yet stay completely loyal to her tribe.

When John Smith returns to Jamestown, he sees a nearly dead settlement. The conditions are horrible, because they are going through the "Starving Time,' where there is almost no food and people are even resulting to cannibalism in order to fead themselves.

As a leader, Smith is very successful, he turns the colony around from a starving nearly dead population, to having excess food and extensive knowledge of the land. The colonists get irritated by the fact that Smith is very demanding and gets what he wants no matter what. However, this helps the colonies a lot because he puts everyone to work.

The colonists treat Pocahontas with a lot of respect, and she is considered to be the hero of Jamestown. While her father is mad at her for giving her food to the colonists, it proves that she is very kind and generous.

I think they will pay her back by being extremely generous and helping her out when she needs it.Pocahontas is her own person who would stand up to her father to do something that she believes in. John Smith was held captive from the Natives and then released and sent back to Jamestown. Upon arriving, Smith discovered that Jamestown was in terrible condition. The colonists are dying, and are very unhealthy and malnourished. John Smith was an effective leader. He had the traits to fit a leader and made clever decisions. Even though the colonists were irritated by Smith's ways, they know that it would be beneficial to them and the acknowledge that.
Because Pocahontas sent out food for the colonists, (in the times that they needed it the most), they worshiped her. They treated her very kindly and even bowed down to her when she passed them. The colonists will probably repay her by giving her protection if needed and if they can help, help her with what she needs. Even though I believe that Pocahontas is a nice girl, I think that she sent out the food because of her relationship with John Smith. Chief Powhatan would be very furious when he finds out what Pocahontas does. He will probably go berserk. Pocahontas is a very curious young lady. She saves Smith because of her curiosity to him. She is willing to learn the English language and culture to feed her curious mind. She is also very generous and kind.

Powahatan spared Smith because his daughter, Pocahontas, dove on top of him. Pocahontas is the hero. Her father told her to put her people before her heart, which is what he expects as the cultures try to understand each other.

Smith is released back to Jamestown with the understanding that the English would leave in the spring. In Jamestown, he find people awfully sick and they have been hit with the Starving Time. Conditions were bad, and the settlement was falling apart with the loss of all the Europeans. However, with the return of Smith, he manages to return to the previous state of settlement, giving the English a chance to survive. John Smith was able to pick Jamestown up from being on the verge of falling. This shows how effective of a leader he was. He is demanding but gets things done for the Europeans, and this is what the colonists recognize. They recognize his leadership qualities and his determination of being a leader. Smith can be demanding, possibly though as an arrogant bully. However, Smiths harsh personality gets things done and moves the settlement along. This personality can be useful when getting things done. Leadership and determination are two unique qualities of John Smith. These qualities make him essential to the story of Jamestown because without him and his determination and leadership skills, the Europeans would have died.

The colonists treat Pocahontas with respect and kindness. She comes with needed food and helps save the settlement. She is the hero of the story of Jamestown. Although it will be hard to repay her, I think the colonists will try to repay Pocahontas. They will do this by helping the Indians. I think Pocahontas love for John Smith drives her to take the risk to feed the colony against her fathers wishes. I think her father will be angry because he told her to put her people first. She should not be worry nor helping the colonists out. Pocahontas is an extraordinary woman who is caring, respected, and giving.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because he wanted to appease his daughter and didn't want to hurt her. Pocahontas' role was to learn about the new settlers and their culture. Her father expects her to put her people before all else, even herself, as the two cultures continue on trying to understand each other.
When Smith gets back to Jamestown, the colony's population has depleted rapidly due to starvation and disease. The colony is half-finished and not suitable to help the colonists very much; overall they aren't surviving too well.
Smith is a very effective leader, and helps to get work done. The colonists recognize and acknowledge that Smith is stern with his leadership, and he works alongside them, not being selfish with his privilege as leader. I think that the colonists can think he's irritating because sometimes he can seem like an arrogant bully when he's giving orders, but compared to the past leader he's a saint. This demanding side of him can be useful when the settlers are on the verge of giving up, much like they were, and his determination and sternness got them back on their feet again.
The colonists treat and perceive Pocahontas as a hero, because it was she that lead the bringing of supplies to the colonists when they were on the verge of defeat. I think they will give some of their goods to the Indians as an act of kindness back. I think that she was acting out of both empathy for how the colony is going and out of her feelings for John Smith. She wanted to give these new and strange people a chance whilst also helping Smith. I think her father won't be very happy about this act, and might punish her. Pocahontas seemed to be a brave, kind, curious, strong, and independent person. She wouldn't let the colony go down when she knew there were things she could do to help it, and she helped despite what her father told her and the most likely expected punishment when he finds out.

Powhatan spared Smith's life because Pocahontas protected him from being killed. If Pocahontas wasn't his favorite child, I don't think he'll let John Smith live. Pocahontas and Smith had a connection.Pocahontas is the daughter of the chief. She is also the mediator and the mediator of the two groups. Her father expects her to be the mediator and still be loyal to her people.
When he gets back to Jamestown ,he finds people suffering and conditions were poor. The colonists said he was a traitor for abandoning them. He had a lot of comforts that the colonists didn’t. The English were barely surviving. John Smith is a very effective leader. Without him, I don’t think Jamestown would survive. He was the leader to push the colonists to do more work for the food and forced colonists to stop colonists from searching for gold. John Smith knows how to get things done and has very good leadership skills. That was what made colonists recognize him. Although Smith is arrogant, he is not a bully. He was special because he was a very strong leader, but might have a soft and caring side. The colonists treat Pocahontas well. They bowed to her when she exited the fort and respected her for bringing food. She is perceived as a hero. I think the English will share their culture and technology and people for Pocahontas' act of kindness. Pocahontas definitely empathizes with the plight of the English and a little bit of the reason why she did this was for John Smith. I don't think her father will be that happy when he finds out she helped him(and the colonists). Pocahontas' act will make Jamestown survive(bad for Natives). She is very brave, caring, kind, smart, and might have a love for life.

I believe that the Powahatan spared John Smith because they realized his power and how useful he could be to their home. Pocahontas was supposed to spy on Smith to see what he was doing with the colony, but she falls in love with him and ends up helping the colony. She gives them food and crops to plant. Pocahontas is praised highly in Jamestown and is considered a hero to them. They will repay her by showing respect to her people and treating them as nicely as her. I believe that it is her love for John Smith that makes her bring the food and supplies over to the colony. If she really did care for the colony she would had went many times to bring food and supplies to Jamestown. Her father will be very mad when he finds out Pocahontas helps the colonists and goes against his wishes. He will punish her for her acts. Pocahontas is very brave and loving. He spared Smith because Pocahontas convinced him and he realized they could find peace or they might leave soon. Also, that Smith had power and consequences might come from killing him. Pocahontas was to teach Smith about their culture and learn about his culture. When he gets back, he finds that the people of Jamestown are suffering. They are poor and it is Starving Time. They are not doing well at the moment. Smith is a very effective leader, getting everyone to work. They recognize his authoritative leadership. There is a bit of bullying, but it is necessary for the few that don't respect him as much and to make others fear and respect more. It is unique about him that he was able to bind all of the people together to work and survive the winter. They treat her kindly and think of her highly since she saved the colony from starvation. They will save her if she is in need of assistance. She helps them because of her feelings for John Smith. He will disown her but kill her cause she was his favorite. I would describe this extraordinary young woman as very brave going against her fathers wishes and very independent and free.

He spared John Smith because Pcahontas got in the way when they were about to kill Smith. Pochontas was his favorite daughter so he tended to do what she wanted. Pocahontas's job was to teach Smith about the culture of the Indians and to learn about Smith's culture. When Smith finally comes back to Jamestown all of the people in the colony are in very bad shape. Many people are starving or suffering from disease. The colony was falling apart. Smith, a very good leader, gets everyone to work. The majority of the colonists respect Smith and do what he asks. However, Smith needed to strong arm some of the colonists how didn't respect him to do what he wanted. The unique thing about John Smith is that he was able to take a colony that was in bad shape and unite all the people and let the colony thrive. The colonists treat Pocahontas kindly and think of her as a princess because she saved the colony from starvation. The colonists would help her if she needed it. Pocahontas helps the colonists because she loves John Smith. He disowned Pocahontas but didn't kill her because she was his favorite daughter. She is very brave and courageous because she went against her father's word and was banished for it.

Smith was about to be killed, when Pocahontas, the chief’s favorite daughter, saved Smith’s life. The Powahatan
spared his life, most likely because the chief believed that his daughter would be able to learn from Smith.
Pocahontas’ father
expected her to learn from Smith, but also remain loyal to her tribe. Pocahontas was the connecting point between
the Old and New World, in a way.
When Smith returned,
he saw that the colony was in a terrible condition. They were completely unprepared, and were starving.
Some even resorted to cannibalism just to get by.
When Smith becomes the new leader of the colony, he is rather strict. However,
the people did realize that Smith was a natural leader, and that he was trying his best to keep them all alive.
Smith’s personality was necessary, because in order to be a leader, one must be able to keep everyone in line
when they start to give up.
Pocahontas is
looked upon as some type of celestial being. All of the colonists bowed to her when she left,
acting as if she were royalty.
I don’t really know how the colonists will repay her, because at this point they have nothing to give.
Pocahontas’ father will probably be fairly angry if he finds out she helped Smith.
He had told her to put her people before the “outsiders”. He will especially be angry because of the fact that
Pocahontas probably only helped the colonists because of her feelings for Smith.
Pocahontas can be described as courageous, kind, headstrong, etc. She truly was an amazing woman.

When Smith returns to Jamestown he finds that many of his men have died and they are all suffering from starvation. The conditions are so severe, there's no food and many are getting sick or dying. People are weak. The English are not surviving well, they are getting poisoned by the salt water they are drinking and they don't even know it. John smith is a very effective leader. He is willing to work with anyone and he keeps his men motivated. However, his discipline is rough and he forces them to work. The colonists realize that he will help the colony thrive once they get though this rough patch. I do think that smith has arrogance he is assertive and rude at times. It is useful thought because he motivates them to do their work even if they only want gold. I think he is a unique leader because he took the risk with the natives and it saved their lives and he learned so much. He is so adaptable. The colonists treated pocohantes as someone with great importance and looked to her as a leader. I think it is a little of both she clearly loves smith as so does he. So I think those feeling motivated her to help however, she is a selfless person who cares about her people as well. When her father finds out I think he will be mad. I would describe her as a selfless person who will go out of her way to help whoever she can. She is a hero and someone everyone should look up to for her great personality.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because Pocahontas threw herself on top of him in defense, and he respected his daughter. The role of Pocahontas was as the connection between the two different cultures, and her father expects her to stay loyal to her people and put them before anything else, including her heart. When he comes back, he find the colonists in terrible condition, suffering, starving, and dying. The settlement is in poor, unsanitary condition. They are barely surviving, and some are starting to sail back to England. Smith is a very effective leader. He knows the natives better than anyone else, therefore effectively forms a good relationship between his settlement and them, which is something very vital to their survival. He also seems to know how to handle certain situations better than anyone else. He may come off as a little harsh, but he needs to be tough in order for productivity. There are aspects of arrogant bully in Smith's personality, but I think he has good intentions. Yes, I do think there are times when this is useful, like in getting his point across and somehow scaring the colonists into being as productive as possible. I think there is something unique about Smith. He seems to have a special connection with the natives, and strong bond with them, which is very essential to the story of Jamestown. Also, in the beginning, he was an underdog and prisoner who was meant to be executed, but later on, he became the president of the colony. They treat her like royalty, though foreign. She is perceived as a princess. I think they will repay her with treasure such as precious gems and stones. I think both her empathy for the English and her feelings for Smith make her take such a risk, though I think her feelings for Smith was the main reasoning. I think he will react very harshly and unforgiving, as he will probably be very hurt by his own daughter's betrayal to his desires. She is a very brave and passionate young woman. I would describe her as courageous, compassionate, rebellious, and beautiful.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because he cared about his daughter Pocahontas because she was his favorite daughter. When she told him to spare Smith he probably only did it because his daughter wanted him to. She was the link between the old and new worlds. She learned about the English culture from Smith and taught Smith the ways of the Native Americans. When Smith returns to Jamestown it is completely falling apart. They are starving and accusing each other of mutiny. The English are not surviving well on their own. They don't know how to survive on their own especially without Smith. Smith is a great leader because he is not harsh and cruel, but he treats the colonists as men. He doesn't pamper them or let them do what they want. I think the reason why they respect him and recognize him as a leader is because above everything he is fair. He treats them the same no matter their status. I don't view Smith as an arrogant bully; I view him as a man who knows what he's doing and makes people get the job done. He's not trying to put people down, he's trying to help the colony survive. His personality is very useful in this situation because if he didn't get on people about working and doing what they're told, no one would want to work and as a result they all would pretty much die. I think because of his leadership skills and techniques he completely shapes the history of Jamestown. The story wouldn't be the same without him in it. It would be a story of the colony that starved to death.

The colonists treat Pocahontas mostly just like the other savages, except they recognize that she does not want to do them harm. I do not think the colonists will repay her act of kindness. They're one focus is to stay alive and if repaying her doesn't help them in some way you can be sure they wont. I believe the reason Pocahontas feeds the colonists against her father's will is just because of her feelings for Smith. She doesn't really show any sympathy for them because she does not really understand what is going on.She just knows that they are Smith's people so she should help them. I think her father will be furious at what she did. He is fearful that the white men are going to over take his empire and now his daughter is helping them thrive and grow stronger. Pocahontas is a loving and courageous woman. She helps Smith's people even though she knows she shouldn't. She feels it right so she does it anyway; I think that's an admirable quality in a person.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because of his daughter's request, and the realization that these strangers would attack if they killed Smith. Pocahontas served as a treaty between the colonists and the Natives. Powhatan still expects her to be completely loyal to her people over all else. When John Smith returns to Jamestown, it is in utter shambles. Men are starving and dying while the living ones are fighting due to claims of mutiny. It is hard to say that English were surviving, but rather refusing to die. Smith is an effective leader, but in ways not accepted by the rash colonists. However, they can all see that he respects his fellow colonists and treats each one with the respect they deserve. I do not believe there are aspects of an arrogant bully in John Smith's personality. I think that a bullying attitude can be a double-edged sword. It might help the problem while hurting other in the process. I think the thing that makes Smith unique and essential to Jamestown is his understanding of others. He does not deem the Natives as savages and he does not place himself socially above other colonists.

The colonists treat Pocahontas with respect and gratitude for bringing them food. They will repay her act of kindness by not hunting down her tribe. I think the only reason she helped the colony was because of John Smith. I think her father will be very disappointed with her. Her father wants them gone as soon as possible, but Pocahontas just prolonged their stay. This woman is a woman who is true to her heart and herself above anything else. This is not always a good quality, but certainly an endearing one.

I think Powhatan let Smith live because he valued and trusted his daughter's opinion of Smith. Pocahontas was the connecting point, the translator of the two cultures and her father expected her to be loyal to her tribe, no matter how much she learned about the English culture. Upon Smith's return to Jamestown, he finds them in the "Starving Time", failing as a colony and ready to die out. The fate of the settlement was very grim, and the English were dying of starvation and disease until Smith came back. Smith is recognized as a very effective leader at this point, due to his power to motivate the colonists to work hard to fix their colony. Smith did not take no as an answer and was very hard on the colonists to all do their share of work to repair the colony. There are certain aspects of arrogance in Smith's personality, but that's essentially what saved the colony. His personality would be useful in a do or die situation, which the Starving time was. One special thing about Smith was that he was determined to make this colony work. The colonists respected Pocahontas very much, and this is shown when they bowed down to her as she passed. She was seen as Jamestown's savior and they repaid her with respect and teaching her English culture. She did this out of empathy, as anyone would've if they had seen the living conditions of the English and had the power to save them. I think her father would be very angry and disappointed. Pocahontas was a noteworthy person, as she did what she could for the wellbeing of others even if it meant doing what she was told not to do. She was very kind, sympathetic, and understanding.

I think Powahatan spared Smith because his daughter Pocahantus intervines. Pocahantus had the role of saving John Smith’s life and the Jamestown Colony. She is also what connects the two cultures together. Her father expects her to teach the English their ways. He also wants her to learn about the English and their Intentions, but put her people first. When Smith returns to Jamestown he sees that the colony is struggling and people are dying. Smith is a very effectice leader. He is very smart and is a leader. This personality is essential to the colony because they need someone in charge to keep everything organized. When Pocahontas helps the colonists in the winter, they are very grateful. They repay her with respect. I think it was her feelings for John Smith that caused her to do this. Her father will not approve of this. Pocahontas is a very kind person for doing this.

I do think there is something special about Smith.

I think Powhatan spared Smith because his daughter was very important to him and he cared for her opinion very much. The role of Pocahontas was to build a bridge between the two cultures but her father expected her to always keep her people in mind first. When John Sith gets back to Jamestown he finds a colony full of sick people who don't have enough food. He sees that many people have already died and knows many more will without some more structure. Smith was a very effective leader because he knew what was fair and he knew everyone had to contribute. The colonist respect his bravery and will to survive even if his personality was straight forward. This personality is useful when things need to get down like they did in the Jamestown settlement. Smith was also a pretty accepting guys which helped mend the bridge between the native American and the colonists. When Pocahontas saves them with supplies, THe colonists bow down to her and show gratitude. She is perceived as a princess and I think they will treat her with nothing but respect. I think she is a naturally compassionate person so even if she didn't have a relationship with john, she would've helped the colonists. I don't thinks her father would fully appreciate her helping the colonists. I think Pocahontas is altruistic in her actions and has a natural desire to help people which is the best quality any person can have

I think that Powahatan spared smith's life because of his daughter, Pocahontas jumping in front of John Smith. Her father expects her to make the right decision by trying to save John Smiths life. When Smith gets back to the settlement he finds it in bad shape and it is filthy. The english aren't surviving that well, they were eating anything they could find and that would also lead to eating each other. Smith is a pretty effective leader. The colonist recognize his drive to succeed and make the colony efficient, they also realise that Smith also doesn't mess around when it comes to their laziness. His personality can be useful when you are trying to the job done, just how they were trying to start a colony. The colonists treat Pocahontas with respect and very kindly. her father will probably be very mad because the indians are trying to drive the english out and her she is giving them the necessities to stay in america for a longer time. I would describe her as selfless and caring and very curious.

Powahatan spared the life of John Smith because of Pocahontas. Pocahontas threw herself upon John Smith right before he was about to be killed. Powahatan decided that John Smiths’ life could be sparred as long as he taught Pocahontas about the world. Smith taught her how to say words in English like tree and bird and lake. This will help the two cultures try to understand each other.
Later, John Smith is shipped back to Jamestown. Upon his arrival, his crew is unhappy at how well he looks. They think he was off having a great time and returned with nothing for his group. The Europeans are a mess. Many of them are sick or dead because of the poisoned lake water or because of the lack of food. They are in a very bad condition.
John Smith becomes the leader of the colony by acclaim. He is a leader and his leadership style will help to improve the struggling colony. Smith is a very effective leader. He declares, “He who shall not work, shall not eat.” The colonists acknowledge how demanding he is and how tough he is. However, the colonists also get annoyed at Smith for being so tough on them. Smith can seem like a bully sometimes with how demanding and harsh he acts and seems. But it is necessary to get work done and make sure the colonists are following their duties. John Smith is a very unique person in the Jamestown story. For one, he was the only European that had interactions with the Indians. He knew about the people in that group, how they worked together and he might have even had love interactions with the chief’s daughter, Pocahontas.
As the colonists in Jamestown starve during the winter, Pocahontas leads a group of Indians with much needed food, seed for crops and provisions to get them through the winter, an act of generosity and kindness that is representative of the Native American culture. The colonists treat Pocahontas with great respect. The treat her like a queen. Pocahontas will be in great trouble with her father when he finds out how helpful and sweet she was to the Europeans. She brought them food and was kind. Her father will be furious and so will her people. Pocahontas is one of the major parts in the Jamestown colony. She helped connected the two worlds together and took a great risk.

The Powhatan spare John Smith’s life because the chief’s daughter Pocahontas, jumps into his arms infront of his as he is about to be attacked. Her father is not very happy with her at first, but then learns to accept it. He instructs her to learn about John and his strange colony, but to keep her tribe as her priority. As Pocahontas and John smith begin to bond, her father disapproves. When John Smith returns to his colony, most are dead. It is the starving time. Disease is at a high and there is barely any food to eat. Everyone is angry with John and thinks that he is a trader. He is voted that he will no longer be leader of the colony. I think that both John Smith and Pocahontas are remarkable people. Even though John spent so much time away from his own people, he was still doing good for the naturals. He tried to stop some of the fighting but there is only so much that can be done. Pocahontas helped the settlers greatly. She and some of her Native friends brought the settlers food, saving their lives. Her father was never happy about her relationship with John Smith, especially the fact that she would save the colonists lives by bringing them food.

I think Powhatan spared John Smith's life because his favorite daughter, Pocahontas, takes action and stops him. Pocahontas is the person that connects the two world, people, and cultures. Her father expects her to keep with her people and put them first and not let her mind drift off to the Europeans. When John Smith gets back to Jamestown, he finds that his people are in bad shape and that they are barely surviving. He becomes the leader and is an effective one, at that. The colonists recognize that he is fair and a natural leader. There are slight aspects of arrogance in Smith's personality. This personality can be useful when he has to make the choice to use it to get things done. he shows this when he says, "He who shall not work, shall not eat." The thing that makes him unique is that he always takes control in the dire situations when no one else will. The colonists treat Pocahontas with respect and they perceive her as a princess. When he gets back to jamestown he finds that most of the people are starving, sick, and dying. The people in the village are not doing too well, and that many are dying. I believe that smith is a very effective leader because he got his men in order, and he got his colony into enough order for them to start succeeding again. The colonists recognize that smith has good relations with the Natives, and that he can lead them to finding/ hunting/growing food so that their people do not starve. In some ways smith is arrogant and a bully because he says that he who will not work will not eat, which is kind of harsh for those who are sick and attempting to regain their strength and get better. This personality was useful, though, when trying to get the people in order and telling them that there is a way and place they can get food. Something unique about smith is that he bonds with the natives well, and they do not attack him or try to hurt him when he approached. This is essential because without their guidance with food , the colony would have died. The colonists treat Pocahontas well, like she is one of their own, and that she is percieved like a "princess" or savior. I think they will repay her by saving her life if she ever needs it to be saved. I think that Pocahontas' feelings for John Smith cause her to take a risk because she wants him to do well and live long with her. When her father finds out what she did to help them I believe that her father will become angered with her because he does not want the colonists to stay there. I believe that pocahontas is a person who wanted to just help everyone, and wanted to make everyone happy.

I think the Powhatan spared John Smith's life because they realized that if Pocahontas had a reasoning to spare his life, than do did they. The Powhatan saw that John Smith and his people did not understand the natives culture and that he wasn't trying to anger the tribe. Pocahontas had the role of spying on the Europeans and on the Jamestown settlement. She was the connection between the Old and the New World. Her father expects her to report of any information she learns about the Europeans and to befriend the Europeans. When he gets back to Jamestown he realizes that his people are struggling. The English aren't surviving well at all. People are dying everywhere, from starvation, and disease. They are struggling for food and for warmth. John Smith is an effective leader. He is productive, and makes life a little bit better. The natives recognize true leadership in him. Even though they find him irritating and bothersome, he is the best person to lead the colony. In Smith's personality you can sense arrogance, and that he's a very strict leader. What Smith says is what goes. I do think that in the fearful time like this that the colony needed his personality and his actions. They needed someone who could take charge, and that's what gained them success. I think Smith's leadership and his connections with the Powhatan and with Pocahontas was essential to Jamestown. Not only to their survival but to their story. The colonists see Pocahontas as a very valuable person. They repay her y providing her shelter, knowledge, and a clothes. They teach her to live like an English woman. I think it is her feelings towards John Smith and her need to help him that drives her to feed the colony. I think her father will feel very betrayed when he finds out that she fed the colony. I view Pocahontas as a very strong and kind person. She went out of her way to help the English, and to do what she felt was right. But, in my opinion, it seems like she did it all for John Smith. I think this was kind of her, but too large of a risk to do this to her people.

The reason why John Smith wasn’t killed by Powahatan was his daughter, Pocahontas, protected him. Since he trusts his daughter and she is his favorite he spares his life. The role Pocahontas plays is the connection between the new and old world. Her father expects and wants her to put the care of others before everything including herself. When John Smith returns back to Jamestown he realizes that the colonists are suffering. Most of the colonists are dying of starvation and salt water poisoning from the river. The condition of the settlement is dirty and has a lot of diseases. The colonists want to go back to England. When smith does return he is declared the new leader. Smith’s new saying when he became leader was “he who shall not work, shall not eat”. He could come off harsh and cruel at times but the work got done. What makes smith special is he drives people to their goals to have an easier and more peaceful life. The colonists show and give opportunities to her and her people. Before they offered supplies in exchange for some of native’s items they are seen as savages. They give her weapons and jewels. What I think makes her do this act of kindness is she feels bad hat the colonists are struggling and just wants to help them. Also, in the beginning, she didn’t want them their but then she started having feelings for john smith when he was there as a guest. Her father wouldn’t be happy with this but she probably didn’t mean to do any harm. Pocahontas is a generous, helpful, and thoughtful person who will do anything for someone else.

Powahatan spares Smith because Pocahontas, his youngest daughter, threw herself onto Smith to save him. She asks him to spare Smith's life. Powahatan expects her to spend time with Smith and learn more about the colonists. He expects her to keep her people first. When Smith gets back to Jamestown he is shocked by what he sees. The colony is barely hanging on. The English are dying of starvation and disease. The colony is desperate. Smith is a very effective leader. He gets the colonists working to get things done to survive. The other colonists recognize that he is doing everything in his power to help the colony survive. There are aspects of an arrogant bully in Smith's personality. Smith is extremely demanding of the colonists and expects things to be done immediately and effectively. This kind of personality is useful at times because the other colonist listen to his commands. His orders ultimately help the colony. Smith's ability to take control in a dire situation when no one else will is what makes him essential to the story of Jamestown. Without him Jamestown wouldn't have survived. When Pocahontas brings provisions and food to get the colonists through the winter, the colonists treat Pocahontas with great respect and gratitude. She is perceived as a hero and a saving grace. I think that the colonist won't repay her for this act of kindness because right now they are focused on their own survival. I think that Pocahontas does empathize with the plight of the English. Her feelings for John Smith also compel her to feed the colony against her father's wishes. I believe that her father will be extremely angry that she helped the colony. Pocahontas is an extremely extraordinary person to risk her relationship with her people to help the English in their time of need. Pocahontas is very caring and brave.

The Indians spare Smith's life because of Pocahontas, who jumps in front of them to save his life. Her father wanted her to keep a close eye on the new settlers, but not to get too attached to Smith because he tells her he is not one of them. He finds finds Jamestown on the verge of destruction when he arrives back. He becomes the leader after the current leader is killed. During the starving timesmany people believe they had to resort to cannibalism. He has a way of getting what he wants. All he hqs to do is say something and have it done. This is a valuable quality and it helped them survive, regardless of how harsh it might of sounded. Pocahontas becomes a hero in Jamestown. She brings food to help feed the starving colonists which causes her to be greatly respected by the people. Without her Jamestown couldn't have been so successful.

I think that Chief Powahata spared John Smith because he saw that Pocahontas had an interest in him and he could teach them about the English ways. The role Pocahontas plays is to be the bridge between them and that is what her father expects from her to be able to understand the other culture and for the other culture to understand them by teaching John Smith their ways. He finds that the English want to make a permanent stay in the Americas. The settlement was very dirty and muddy and unlivable conditions the English were surviving very poorly and were thinking about mutiny. Smith was a very effective leader everyone acknowledged his leadership and want for success. Yes he does show sort of an arrogant bully personality but it is useful to get people working to do is there tolls and that is what I find unique about him. It is essential to the colonization of Jamestown because if he wasn't like that what would've happened. They treated Pocahontas with lots of respect and less of a savage then the rest of the Native Americans. She is perceived as a savage but isn't treated as such.in this version I think Pocahontas did what she did because of her feelings for John Smith but also empathizes for the English colonists, but the main reason for taking such a risk against her father's wishes was primarily for John Smith. Her father will be very aggravated and disrespected at how she treated his wishes. I would describe her as a very generous and loving young woman.

Powhatan spared the life of John Smith because his favorite daughter wanted him to. Pocahontas is expected to teach smith about their ways and ensure he is honorable and will leave in spring.
Upon returning to Jamestown he finds it in an even more miserable state then when he left. People are starving and dropping like flies. Plus their current leader is a bumbling fool.
Smith is immediately appointed leader because of his charisma and understanding of this new land and what must be done for survival. Though he is the best leader they've had so far not even he can make much of the dying colony.
The colonists are very grateful to Pocahontas even bowing to her as they left despite having viewed her people as savages. I believe that some May try to repay her but most will forget about her generosity. As Pocahontas was described as the most kind and beloved person in their tribe I believe that both watching the English suffer and missing her love both factored into her decision to save the English. Though her father will likely be upset she is still his favorite daughter and will be forgiven for saving lives. I think Pocahontas is a women who exemplifies all that she should as a natural and a good person.
